Alice and Wonderland

Wow we had finished our exam with 3 nights long production. We made the audience laugh and cry in 40 mins of theatre.
It featured; a crazy granny, a ditzy spiritual doctor, a scottish feminist boss, a pregnant ginger, a man who just cant find a reason to live anymore, a lippy cockney barmaid, a bigatrist shop keeper and a brief case with a mysterious suicide tool. Practically everything you need in a Brectian inspired play.

Every night was different due to the audience, the first night was teachers so reduced swearing, the second night was a disiaster where I smashed an empty pint glass and the final night was purely improvised with tons of laughs.

Apparently the best lne of the play was from the Scottish boss who screams 'SIT DOWN BOY' at the protagonist.

I hope to get the video of it soon.

University progress

Well as some of my avid readers may know I have applied to 5 universities to do English Lit and/or creative writing - Kent, Bangnor, Southbank, Bath and Abberdeen.
So far I have 3 conditional offers from Bath, Bangnor and Southbank.
I am very happy but now i just heve to wait for the other 2 replies and then I will decide and then get the grades (O Joy!)

Free Running Poetry

As I promised you here is the commision poems that I wrote for the 'Barcleycard World Free Running Champonships 2008'. The last poem was published and displayed at the Championships.

Tracuer/ He Runs Free

Inspired by Urban Free Flow and Josh Dyer

He started as a set of Addidas Traceurs
Originally a Formula 1 tyre
Giving his precious soles grip
For the Tic Tac, Cat Leap and Wall Run
Strong legs cloaked by tracksuit bottoms
grey as the city concrete he explores.
A powerfull upper body covered with a
glyphed black vest, sowing sculptured muscular arms
with beads of sweat flowing down the contours.
He is a god imortalised in the mystery of free running.

He faces a wall
too wide to run around
too high to vault
he steps back
not backing away
Assesing the situation

His feet bless the flat surface
propels himself upwards,
grabs the wall like a clamp
swinging over
landing, knees bent

Scales the building
leaping rooftop to rooftop like a spider
rolls flawlessly
No strings, harnesses or special FX
Fearlessness is his only stunt double.

The city skyline is physically interesting
as the colourful graffiti that surrounds him
Unknown as the artists work that envelopes
him as he sprays himself into the surroundings.

Tanka - Lost Focus
Danger sharpens my
focus as I take a death
Defying leap. As
I land and walk onwards, my
Attention has slipped. I trip.

Tanka - Free Runners Vision
My playground is here,
banisters to vault
doorways to swing off
looks say ' Why not use the stairs
And be a normal person?'

Who Forbids me to be Free?
Inspired by Basement Jaxx - Run 4 Cover

If there was a never ending light
trailing from my back,
I would draw you a route so seemingly simple
you would lose yourself trying to fathom
why I don't take the stairs, circumvent the obstacles, or take the easy roads.
I see the world in a way you never would.
Music pulsates in my ears,
fast and furious,
urging me to
Tic Tac,
Cat Balance
and Dash Vault
over railings, walls and bollards.
When the music slows,
I leap, summersault and roll,
hard to soft, high to low
My feet caress the concrete
as I pirrouette like a butterfly
creating spirals, arcs and circles.
My body - A human gyroscope.

Life is a playground,
I the child disobeying the adult within,
who forbids me to be free,
for fear of what will happen when I fall.
How else will I learn?

I move like the music that pulsates in my ear;
fast, furious
with grace and spontineity.
Life is never free from pain.

Catch Up

Wow it has been nearly a month since I last blogged and there have been many things happening. Lets start from the beginning! I have been swamped in performances/ recitals, essays and writing poetry. The main world events have been the new elected president - Obama, Mumbia terrorist attacks and the financial crisis worsening.

My new found love is running and with any new love there is a period when one gets burnt. My burning came in the form of spraining my ankle by falling on wet leaves, currently disabling me temporally. The thing I need the most when I have my Theatre exam next week, on the subject of my Theatre exam I got to name my groups play, which is called 'Alice and Wonderland'.

I have also got a haircut and have been writing some poetry, which was performed last weekend.

The Revolution!!

November 5th Poem
"Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'twas his intent to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys,
God save the King! Hip hip hoorah!

A penny loaf to feed the Pope.
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hoorah! Hip hip hoorah"

Its 403 years on and we still have Parliment ( and that old hag known as Queen Elizabeth II). Has anything really changed since the 'Golden Age'? Well... practicaly anyone can vote, slavery abolished, sexual freedom, Church is not so dominant, Antibiotics, CCTV, a civil war and two world wars - not much really.

The long forgotten 'Golden Age' is over and we are decending into a 'Orwellian Dystopic Age' now where we are constantly monitered, watched on CCTV and slowly but surely we are having our freedoms stripped from us. This leads the politically pessimistic of us to question - Is there any hope of revolution this day and age?

If so it is in the hands of the youthn of today (excuse the cliche here) who are blinded by clever parania installing propaganda, discriminated by the media and absorbed on social networking sites. I say revolution is in the hands of the youth of today because who boycotted school and protested against the war in Iraq when the decision was made. Us as students of course!! In the 1960's where were the riots, marches and destroying of conscription papers - Where there were students/ young people!!

The only way the revolution will happen is when they create more unreasonable laws that strips us of more freedoms, but until then we will have to wait for it to get worse before it gets better.

As to paraphase Gil Scott Heron - The revolution will not be on Facebook/Myspace/Bebo

By the way my television recomendation for this occasion will be the famous 'V for Vendetta' - What else eh?

My vision of masculinity

The image of the modern man is something to be questioned. Who wants to date something like this (bottom image)? He looks like a girl, you could snap him in half when you hug him and not a hint of body hair!

To me a masculine male should look like this( see top image), charming, intelligent and some chest hair (maybe a tatoo too). Some one who wont break when you hug him or break you. Not a caveman but not a wax work model, something in between.

I think the physical activities taken by a masculine man should be focused on maintaing the sculptured physique, cards (but not gambling) and dance (if a man can dance just think what other partnered pursuits he would be good at).
He should be a gentleman but unobtursively exert some authority like 'Rhett' in 'Gone with the Wind'.

10 Things I can't live without!!!

I was thinking about my life and what I could and couldn't live without.
Couldn't live without;
1 Paper - The bane of my life
2 Coffee because it provides the energy needed for when writing long essays
3 Internet - the font of all knowledge
4 Pasta - cheap and easy to cook
5 Ipod because it keeps me sane
6 Phone, its my timekeeping device, calender and camera
7 Jeans - I live in them
8 Wiki - It tells you everything you ever wanted to know
9 Pen - to write with on the paper
10 my bed - The muse generator and dream land

10 Things I could live without;
1 TV - I dont watch it
2 Tea- erghhh
3 rain, why oh why
4 boys - They are sooo immature
5 Radio adverts - they just reduce the music airplay time
6 new pop music, cant it be called modern shite and no besirch the history of popular music
7 paying for the tube, when I have free bus travel
8 an iron, when clothes get creased whilst being worn
9 newspapers, there on the internet save the forest
10 jewellery - less is more

I just wanted to cry!

Last night I went to go for my daily jog but as I went to select the albulm (Classic Masterworks - Haydn) my Ipod decided to freeze. I was devastated I tried everything I could including putting it in the fridge for 5 minutes but it just wouldn't unfreeze. So I had to jog to the soundtrack of my breathe, footsteps and my thoughts. As I was jogging I noticed that my feet didn't make a noise when the pounded the pavement, I had finally achieved silence in something!

When I arrived at sixth form and was telling a friend about my Ipod issue, she just held the menu and central button down and unfroze it, therefore saving me the journey to Brent X where I would have visited the Apple Store. This had made me go from wishing to cry to being happy as Larry!

What to do when you are stuck for ideas in a drama lesson!

In Theatre today we were stuck without a story and a set of characters, to revolve around the protagonist. So as a way to generate some characters we improvised an 'addicts anonomous' meeting, which also generated a story and a sub story.
We intend to devise a 40 minute drama that is not only naturalistic, but with surreal scenes that convey the madness of the modern world.

Saturday at Southbank

This Saturday I was down at Southbank doing some free running as you do with some friends. I surprisingly was the only girl and when we joined some other free runners, they were unsure how to percieve me but as I showed what I could do they became friendly and accepting.

We had a few minor problems with security guards, who tried to call the police to move us on and to stop us doing flips. We called thier bluff by qouting the health and safety law which states that they can advise us not to flip but it is up to us if we choose to take it or not. They then tried to tell us we were on private property, this failed as there was tourists and passers by who asked why it was private property in a public space and we argued that if a jogger had paused to gain his breathe was he tresspassing?.

The one thing I like about free running is that even if you aren't too great at it anything you do still looks great and people love to photograph anything that looks great and slightly dangerous, especially if it is in London by the Thames, who could ask for a better background.

Songs that I think are Classics

There are some songs I love that I don't own.
Ricky Martin - La vida loca/she bangs
Lou Bega - Mambo No 5
Khia - Lick my neck (Ahh thoose PE lessons on the coach, making teachers uncomfortable)
MadCon - Beggin'
James Brown - Cold Sweat
Nina Simone - I put a spell on you/ Feeling good
Rolling Stones - Paint it black
Pussy Cat Dolls - Don't Cha (I know really shameful)

Diet

Of all things the one thing that doesn't interest me is diet. Even when my friends say they are going on a diet despite they don't need too.

But recently I have been thinking about changing my diet. Just adjusting the little things like how much water I drink, eating more fish and eggs and less of the sugar stuff.
I have reduced how much coffee/hot chocolate I drink and I eat so much fruit that my mother is surprised when its all gone within a week (realisticaly me and my sister are the only main fruit eaters in my house).
I have started to change the amount of water I drink by carrying a bottle with me everywhere alongside my novel, poetry material and make up. (No wonder my bag wieghs a ton)
I also need to go back to taking my vitamin and cod liver suppliments like I use to when I was a pre-teen. This along with some exercise I think will help me become a fitter and healthier person.

12 October 2008

Housewife

Oh my god, I have discovered a new side of myself. I saw the amout of washing that needed to be done in my room and decide hey lets see how much of it I can wash. It turns out to be 10 washing machine loads, this breaks down in to 3 colour loads, 2 woolen, 1 delicates, 1 reds, 1 whites and 1 underwear. This turnt out to be really enjoyable and I honestly felt like a housewife when I got out the hoover and used it around the house. I just want to apologise to the people who want to reduce global warming, but it was for the greater good of my wardrobe dilema. Really who wants to be wearing the same clothes for a week, certianly not me. I rewarded myself with watching the 50 greatest Hip Hop tunes of 1998 to 2008 on MTV.
I also managed not to break anything, but couldn't find anything to bake - God I seriously soundlike a 1950's house wife stuck in the 21st century. Maybe I should just stick to the studying and stay young and carefree like I'm suppose too.

10 October 2008

Freedom

I'm soooo happy I have a free yard for the weekend which means raiding the fridge, partying and just jamming on the sofa watching MTV on full blast. The only downside is quickly cleaning the house before sunday evening. This is going to great and I intend to take full advantage of it for as long as possible!!!

Unwell

OMG
Some silly person has passed on the winter cold to me and I feel like I am dying because I can't breathe through my nose therefore when I do anything where I normally breathe through my nose I look really unattractive or high.
Normally I don't get ill but clearly my metabalism is lower than normal. Time to up my fitness regime!!

Jesus

JESUS READS MY BLOG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well its not exactly Jesus but someone who looks like him.
Same thing really except the powers to perform miracles and has died yet for my sins aka during school drinking and stuff...

Seperated at birth

Ok

Is it me or does my head teacher look like Gordon Brown?

University

Why do schools/ college make you apply to uni?
what if you don't want to ?
What if you don't know what to study?
What if you don't know what you want to do in life?

If I knew the answer to these questions I would tell you but they have crossed my mind. At the moment I have filled out my UCAS form and perfected my personal statement, just waiting until January 15Th to post it and wait for my offers. I have applied to Kent, Bangor, Glasgow, Durham and Warwick to do English Lit with Creative Writing. At the moment with the credit crunch I don't know if the banks will give me my loans and other things I need and I know the debt I'm going to be in will pile up ridiculously, but it is what I have to be prepared to do as I will be the first in my family to go and it is part of reaching self actulisation or something stupid like that.

Women you can do anything!

I had a huge discussion/debate about whether girls are better than boys at sport.

Obviously there are some things women can do that men can't like walking/running/dancing in heels/stillettoes, just because the way our bodies are built and the way we condition ourselves. A female friend of mine said ' if you spend 3/4 hours in heels and can run without falling over in them you can do free running just because you have the balance ... I would love to see a boy run/ walk in heels without complaining he is crippled'. This attitude I think helps us break the gender barriers around spot for females.
I have noticed when a girl wants to partake in a masculine sport like Rugby or football she is considered a lesbian, but women need to break these sterotypes and embrace sport. Even if she ignores the homophobic gossip/ chants boys look on her like an object of sexual desire like male friend of mine said 'any girl who free runs is sexy and I would bang her any day'.
This lead to a rebuking from the girls and told him that that kind of attitude is demeaning and uncalled for as we are more than a set of breasts, we can do anything a boy can do and better sometimes.
Girls have a tendency to pick movements instinctively correctly, where as a boy will do it but in his own way the first time they are shown how to do something. This shows we can learn skills that boys would learn incorrectly.

Harry 'fucking shit' Potter

Yay finaly JK Rowling has put down that crusty biro of shite, and is never going to pen another Potter book. Thank god, seriously anyone who read those should be ashamed of themselves, (I know I am) and anyone who still fanatises of writing the next one, do us a favour - DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!
Warner brothers should stop making the films too as they are a poor representation of the shit, It went from solid poop to diarrhea immediately. I even said to my kid sister 'Even I wouldn't wipe my arse with that' and 'I can do better than that and I don't even have the experience or qaulifacations'.

Anyone want to burn thier 1st edition shite or other edition crap to a burnning pile. Please notify me if you have any other crappy novels you want to burn (not including the goths favourite - The Bible).
Mucho Jazzle Love x

Things that really irratate me

I'm in school just trying to work and am slowly getting annoyed by some boy.
He just won't stop making annoying hmmming noises and grunts through his nose and twitches incessantly and when I ask him to stop he just shakes his head and gives me a dirty look as though to say 'who are you to tell me to shut up fool?'
Here are a list of more things that irratate me
1. When people have an odd number of Weetabix
2. People leave used teabags in empty drunk cups
3. Children screaming in school corridors
4. soulja boy and any other song with catchy lyrics and dodgy dance routines
5.Boys who think that girls can't do anything like free running, because its too masculine
6. Cold Mountian, too many pages for a pointless story, It can be told in 1 sentence!
7. Teachers who don't explain the homework or tell you when its due
8. Junk email in your inbox, HELLO MSN - SORT IT OUT
9. Not being able to find a book in the library - and them not being able to order it
10. People who are late and don't pick up thier phone or respond to texts - Frodo sort it out

My list could drag on for eternity but I won't bore you to death lol

Emo: The Modern Hamlet

My all knowing mother, asked me to help her understand the newest youth social group - The EMO!
This social group was first noticeable as a fashion clique in 2003 and behave basically like a modern Hamlet, depressed, middle/upper class, angst ridden and have everything the need but say they have nothing to live for.

How to spot an EMO-
Emo guys usually have shaggy hair, that covers a majority of their forehead and eyes. Much like the girls, they like to dye their hair dark colors. Especially black. When it comes to their clothing, emo boys usually sport under sized clothing. A lot of them will wear girls pants. When it comes to their shirts, they like the vintage look. Much like the girls again, emo boys like to have facial piercings. Emo girls hair is shorter than what must girls have. They like to dye their hair black and cut their bangs uniquely. Jewelry is a big part of their fashion. Body piercings, and facial piercings are very common among girls. Girls and boys tend to purchase all their clothing at thrift store. However, many emo kids will make their own clothing or mod their own clothes to fit they look they are going after. Girls and boys that are emo share the same taste when it comes to fashion. Glassed which are horn rimmed are quite popular, along with bags cluttered with patches. They also wear suspiciously long sleeves/fingerless gloves to hide the scars where they cut themselves.
The largest EMO gathering site in London would be Camden Lock, a more happy version of EMO is the scene kid.

They are the opposite of the 1960's hippies, as this is our generation the future is depressing for us, no hope or chance of a youth revolution.

Things that I have learnt this week so far!

Lets start with Monday, I went out with some school friends and got REALLY drunk to the point I have 3 holes in my back (apparently from acting like a needy spoilt four year old) and had a killer hangover, this was from drinking too much gin. I was up all night vomiting as you do and Tuesday my lovely mother packed me on my way to school to cope with it. Lovely!
Wednesday I was thinking about relationships and the word 'wifey'. For me I would hate to be someones 'wifey' because I hate to be held down with loyalty, I can't do long term relationships because I get bored easily. I know how people say its just a phase and I will grow out of it, but at nearly 18 I think not and life is for having fun.

Not very interesting but i will let you all now how far I am coming along with it!

Barcleycard world free running championships

It was amazing, death defying and down right unbelievable! The highlights show some of the best and the worst of the show, it was great because being VIP there was free alcohol and my poetry was displayed alongside some dodgy photos in which I appear looking like I have a huge ass or checking out the tutors. The poetry was fantastic, the other poets wrote some amazing stuff but graphically mine was all over the place and communicated the subject well.

Pip Anderson was amazing, shame he didn't get first place but England did us proud by gaining second and third place and and Jenx Jenkins received best trickster. Well done to him bearing in mind he was the youngest contestant aged 15. Livewire was too good to be given second place in my opinion. Shame Cali (my favourite) didn't get through to the semi finals, but he really set the bench mark with the body popping.

I know this sounds superficial but man I have to say it - Tracuers are hot and sexy! Hopefully in the next championships there will be some of the female community represented (only 2% of the free running community is female), me and my fellow female poets semi joked that we will train for a year and enter. I say semi joke as i really want to enter but i need to train properly alongside studying and applying to university.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OBJyGojbpBQ - Free Running highlights
There will be an one hour show on SkySports September 22nd. I will let you all know the time as soon as possible.

I will get the poems up soon and Charlie Dark (Wiki him) who helped host the event approached me before the show and asked for my contact detials for an anthology, at the time I didn't realise who it was amd only because my friend Kazie told me who it was after, I was feeling blessed.

PK + Poetry= challenge

OK,
This week I have been working with the Roundhouse and Parkour people as 1 of 5 youth poets (Me (Jazzle Dunne),Kiaz La Kaize, Bayan Gadazpour, Deborah Stevenson, Tyrone Lewis, and our mentor Jacob Sam La Rose) to generate some poetry about free running. This started with a meeting with Calli from Urban Free Flow at the Southbank. This was enlightening as we found out lots about him and free running and the Barcleycard World Free Running championships, which takes place in September. So I went home and started to generate some ideas from my stimuli, which resulted in 7 poems and 1 is a shape poem based on the Urban Free Flow logo. On Monday i will go and get some feedback and critique on these poems and the go and create the final drafts to deliver on Friday. These poems will be displayed around the Roundhouse during the championships. I am very excited as it is my first commission and it is about a subject I love to watch and try to do. I will publish these poems when I have finished them and they have been displayed at the Roundhouse.

The dreaded exam results

I woke up this morning feeling sick and dreading the results.
Went to school and got results, opened envelope and burst into tears. Thank god no one was around to see humiliation. I got B for theatre, C for English Lit, E for Psychology and U for music. This made me feel shit as I have to retake the school year completely. Lucky me eh? It shows the British education system is faulty as I revised extremely hard for music and was told I was aiming for C/B but results said something different. My head of year suggested I see the school councilor, like that makes anyone feel better about themselves. Hey lets see someone who reminds me why I feel inadauqate. Cleaver idea!
After watching Braveheart, writing a poem and talking to my mother about my options I feel slightly better, but still not great...

Parkour

This week I am currently taking part in a course in Parkour. Its strenuous but fun. This can be seen in London at the Southbank and other places around London

I was first introduced by a school friend known as Mad Monk in the Parkour world, this was when we were 12/13. Mad Monk and friends use to jump and climb all over the school site from leaping over the toxic school pond to off the school bin shed. Teachers tried to stop this and failed then an accident happened to gruesome to discribe which forced students to do it elsewhere.

Parkour is a physical activity that is difficult to categorize. Often miscategorized as a sport or an extreme sport, parkour has no set of rules, team work, formal hierarchy, or competitiveness.[5][6] On the contrary it is more like an art or discipline that resembles self-defense in the ancient martial arts.[7][8] According to David Belle, "the physical aspect of parkour is getting over all the obstacles in your path as you would in an emergency. You want to move in such a way, with any movement, as to help you gain the most ground on someone or something, whether escaping from it or chasing toward it."[9] Thus, when faced with a hostile confrontation with a person, one will be able to speak, fight, or flee. As martial arts are a form of training for the fight, parkour is a form of training for the flight.[8] Because of its unique nature, it is often said that parkour is in its own category.

An important characteristic of parkour is efficiency. Practitioners move not only as fast as they can, but also in the most direct and efficient way possible; a characteristic that distinguishes it from the similar practice of free running, which places more emphasis on freedom of movement, such as acrobatics. Efficiency also involves avoiding injuries, short and long-term, part of why parkour's unofficial motto is être et durer (to be and to last). Those who are skilled at this activity normally have an extremely keen spatial awareness.[citation needed]

Traceurs claim that parkour also influences one's thought process by enhancing self-confidence and critical-thinking skills that allow one to overcome everyday physical and mental obstacles.[5][10][11] A study by Neuropsychiatrie de l'Enfance et de l'Adolescence in France reflects that traceurs seek for more sensation and leadership than gymnastic practitioners. They also have a more narcissistic personality, but one that does not seem to be linked to maladaptive or psychopathologic behaviors.[12]

There are some great videos of Parkour in action like Jump london and District 13.
I would recommend the gym first and strapping up really weak ankles and wrists. As they ache after, so much Paracetamol doesn't relieve the pain.

Poetry

I love poetry, beyond what we are taught in education because it is a whole other world. From the greats to the lesser known modern poets, there is certainly something for everyone.
I write poetry and have been writing for 6/7 years now, starting with acrostics and now writing sonnets, bops and sexatinas etc. The performance of poetry is even better as it can be entertaining and sometimes really enlightening. I personally am a part of The Roundhouse Poets, who regularly perform and some of the poets are established and slowly gaining recognition for their work. The group have a vast range of poetic styles for example there is an amazing MC (Kaz Dela Kazie) to the audience participation poet (Bayan). The mentor is the amazing Jacob Sam La Rose, who is also a web designer and photographer as well as an established international poet. He encourages us to experiment with the different forms and to not rely on cliches. These classes run at the Roundhouse, Camden for 13 to 25(?) year old on a Friday night (7 till 9pm) for 10 weeks a term.
Me performing on the main stage at the Roundhouse with 3 other poets.
Me on the Mic at a Christmas showcase doing some jazz poetry.
Performing at Process ran by Louis Antwi at the Roundhouse.
Performing at the Christmas Showcase at the Roundhouse again.

Chavs or rude 11 year olds

I was on my bus after a long day of education and there was some of my younger mates who look like emos' or people one sees in Camden, and they were being harassed by some pathetic 11 year old rude boys. the boys were saying things like 'you look like horror twins' (quite pathetic and unoriginal things) the girls told them to shut up and they replied 'You're gay' (wow the inventiveness) this caused many of the older passengers to titter and laugh at their appalling comeback. This made me think what has happened to the youth are they so brain washed into thinking that someones sexuality is a curse that can be used so freely. But we love the variety of young people called the CHAVS because they think they are so god damn tough that nobody will stand up to them and tell them to go and get an attitude make over. Most of the CHAV kind believe that they are so gangster, so scary, unknown to themselves they don't realise we find them amusing and pathetic because at 11 -16 years old you don't know about the world and you don't know any proper gangsters. We should just round up all the CHAVs and send them to meet the Kary's and the Italian Mafia, then ask them if they consider themselves gangster.

A pearl of wisdom

This weekend I went away with my family to the seaside town of Whitstable in Kent. Most of the towns population are parents, OAP's and the just finished uni students. It was not just a family weekend break, but a learning experience. It started with a gig/ concert with a great ska band called the Eskalators and followed by a comic poet called John Hegly. The poet wasn't great as his heart wasn't in the performance and the one liners/ private jokes were lost on us DFL's (Down from London). The band was great, everyone was dancing and me and my mother were 'skanking' away, whilst we were dancing I asked my mother could we go to an event mentioned to us by a family friend called Mothers Old Vinyl's (a disco). We went to the disco and partied away, and it made me think why are the youth so ashamed of their parents, when they can implant some of their wisdom and knowledge to them about music and dance. I really learnt how to really loosen up and physically express myself on the floor with the 'monkey' and 'twist'. It certainly raised a few eyebrows from the villagers.

It is now clear why parents are there other than to look after their charges, they're there to pass on valuable knowledge and wisdom about everything like music and how to dance in a disco using the long forgotten moves of the yesteryear.

Media demonisation of the youth

For this part of the century the media are running a hate campaign on the youth of today, whether they are harmless or 'hoodies'. It is hard to walk down the street in a group without people crossing the road in terrorbecause they will be assulted. Is it any wonder that youths are now comforming to the stereotypes and joining gangs? The police revealed this year that there are over 100 gangs and only 3 of them are all female in london alone. This leads on to the question of what really is a gang: a large group of young people or a small crimminal network? Alongside the fear of us being 'hoodies' we are faced with being called underage parents, bingedrinkers and layabouts. Is it not a small part of the youth population who make the rest of us look the same as them. Yes I like everyone else likes to go out and have a drink, but my friends and I certainly don't go terrorising grannies and robbing shops. There just isn't enough for young people to do, in terms of recreation. Thank god there is places like the Roundhouse and summer university courses to help young people spend their time in a creative and useful way, but the media don't look at these things because they wouldn't have any negative propaganda to feed to the thirsty masses of our elders about us, the youth.

The establishment should be asking what it can do for the youth to stop them from killing each other and drinking themselves beyond a liver transplant. Not showing us pictures of knife wounds, telling us about the damage alcohol and drugs does to you and generalising every young person. They should be teaching us how to drink moderately/not making alcohol a taboo, driving us better to be creative not destructive and embracing the wider youth population and showing what young people are really like, not the minorities who are deprived of attention and think the only way to get it is by killing someone.
